Junya sat down on a wet bench while the rain was pouring down. He was so pissed off at seeing Khevasiah with another man, he did not know how to handle himself. He came outside to wait for her to chase after him to the car, and they would drive off, forgetting the madness of the weekend. Unfortunately, she had moved the vehicle, and it seemed that she had moved on.
Junya could not go back and try to fight Halftime, for he was sure to get shot, or even killed up in
that room. No one was on Junya.s side, not even upstairs at the party. Junya felt
that he needed to do something, and it had to be very extravagant; to win back
his respect with both Khevasiah, and Gerald Mickens.
Junya ran across the street and walked into a Cantonese restaurant. He
ordered a plate of fish that he never had heard of before. He then asked the
waiter to use the phone, and the waiter brought a rotary phone to the table.
Junya reached in his pocket and felt around for Lani.s business card with her
cellular phone number on it.
The card was soaking wet, but the numbers were
still legible. Junya dialed the number and heard it ring and ring. Junya felt that
he needed to leave her a message, for she seemed upset that he was with
Khevasiah in the first place. Lani.s answering machine came on, and Junya
started to leave a message.
"Lani...It is Junya. I am at the Cantonese restaurant up the block. I don't
know what to say to you other than, I really need your help right now. If you
could me..."
The answering system had cut off, and Junya looked up to see the waiter
standing there in front of him. Junya handed him the phone and placed his
order. Junya took the kerchief and wiped his face off. He took his jacket and
placed it on the empty chair next to him. He then reached into his pocket and
counted out $50 to pay for the meal once it arrived. Junya figured if Lani came
before the food did, he would leave with her immediately.
Junya sat down and ate the elaborate dinner.
It was a fish with an extreme hot pepper sauce, mixed with steamed vegetables and a brown rice with
a flavor Junya had never tasted before. Junya had been halfway finished with
the meal, and he heard the chime to the door go off. He looked up and Lani had
walked in. She had a raincoat on and holding an umbrella, shaking it out while
it was outside of the restaurant. She scanned the room quickly, and noticed
Junya sitting down. Junya took the kerchief from his neck and started to get up,
but Lani signaled him to sit down with her hand.
Junya stood up anyway, to show Lani he was not to be bossed around. Junya took the umbrella from her;
while soaking wet. Junya took Lani.s coat off and walked her to the table where
he had been sitting. Junya signaled the waiter to bring another menu. Junya
looked and saw that Lani started eating his food.
"I see you don't waste any time, huh..." Junya said with a smile on his
face.
