Junya looked down towards the floor and then to the opposite side of the line. He looked in back of him only to find the man with the clipboard looking right at him. The man shook his head and attended to the next person in front of him. "Yea, Junya, I am talking to you. Act like you don't know me now, watch me and you!" "Khevasiah, just chill, okay! It is not a big deal...let it ride out." "When is it ever a big deal for you? Do you even care? You swear you would kill a man if he touched all over me! You wouldn.t like that, right? So why would you stand there when the man did it right in front of your face! That is some real bitch ass shit and I do not know if I can tolerate that right now. I hope you have fun, bye."
At that, Khevasiah passed through the female bouncer and was given a
silver colored sticker tag to put around her wrist to show that she was VIP.
Junya was searched by the same bouncer that was talking to the man at the door
earlier. After an extensive search, he threw the sticker tag at Junya.s hands and
hurried him along. As Junya opened the second set of double doors, his eyes lit
up. Between the various shades of women he saw, blended in with the sparkle
and class of the atmosphere, Junya knew he was no way prepared for what he
was about to experience.
The club had resembled everything Junya had seen in those rap music
videos on BET. The club was decked out with an elongated shark bar, and
various miniature booths filled with people popping champagne and laughing
artificially. Junya looked to see if he saw Khevasiah, but she was out of his sight
just that fast. He stepped up to another level in the club; its gracious pearl
marble textured floor that reflected wetness from various alcoholic concoctions
spilling through the course of the night. The ceiling was raised high, as if were a
planetarium, and there were balconies protruding from the raised levels where
elbows and drinks in hands were seen hanging off. A number of strobe lights
twinkled to the heavy bass reggae tunes that rode the party goers in a trance.
Junya walked the length of the bar and reached what seemed to be the main
dance floor.
From where Junya stood, he could see the heads of at least a
thousand people: it seemed to him. As he stepped down, he looked up onto a
raised platform where the soundman and selector were representing on the
microphone. Some women wearing bright tight pants and shredded shirts
whined there bodies alongside the large speakers on separate raised platforms
adjacent to the DJ. Junya then looked up towards an area with violet light, lining
the 3rd story of the club. He saw people walking back and forth with ease, for it
was not too crowded. Some white people, and a group of Asian men were
sitting at a table. Junya made his way through the crowd, squishing past fat
asses and minding not to step on some of the all white AF1.s that were plentiful
amongst the young club goers.
He got to a staircase that coiled up towards two
more levels. He stopped on the second level to have a look around. He realized
that this level of the club lined the wall all the way back to the main entrance,
where there was a path along the side before he stepped upward that would
have lead him directly to the coiled staircase. This floor lead to where the DJ set
up. Down the other end of this floor, there were a series of tables, the majority of
them occupied by couples or lucky macks hemming up some woman they met
during the course of the night. Down the end of this story the section rapped
around to where there was a quaint little bar, where a skinny white man was
juggling bottles and pouring glasses in front of an elderly white couple wearing
fur coats.
Junya headed back to the coil staircase and proceeded upward. From the
stairs he could look into the crowd and see the whole dance floor, as well as the
top of the DJ booth. The reggae had started to switch back to rap: A Nas song
came on. At the top of the third floor, the stairs continued, but it seemed to lead
to some offices in the club. He looked and saw Khevasiah sitting alone at a table
in the center of the section.
