The train had gained its power back, and it started moving again. Junya looked around him and noticed that there were only two other people on the train car where he was. Junya looked at his watch, and noticed that it was a little after 6:00pm. He figured that it would be less than an hour before the train got into NYC. Sitting in his chair, Junya started to contemplate his next move. Getting into NYC, he would not have much time to maneuver around in order to meet Lani. Khevasiah could have been anywhere, either back in Connecticut, or still partying up in the city. Khevasiah could have gone down to New Jersey for all Junya knew. The more Junya thought about it, Junya got hot. Junya felt around in his pants pocket and pulled out the business card with Lani.s contact numbers on it. He read the card and noticed that Lani.s last name was hyphenated.
"She is married?" Junya asked to himself.
Junya started to feel really stupid. His purpose of going back to the city in
the first place was to eventually get back at Khevasiah by doing something with
Lani. If Lani was being coif with her approach, the possibility of getting back at
Khevasiah was grand. However, if she was just being flirtatious, in an attempt to
pitch her business, Junya would be in NYC for nothing. He did not know where
Khevasiah was, but what was worse, his money was practically done. He could
not afford to get a train back into Hartford, so Junya found himself silently
depending on Lani and Khevasiah. He knew eventually he had to meet back
with Khevasiah.
The train stopped, and Junya got off, immediately hopping a cab back to
the club where him and Khevasiah went to the night before. When he got there,
he saw Khevasiah.s yellow Land Rover in the parking spot.
"Could you wait here a moment?" Junya asked the cab driver.
"It a crisp nuh brethren!" The Rasta cab driver spoke in a patois dialect.
Junya walked up to the SUV and noticed that there was a piece of paper in
the windshield wiper. Junya dismissed it as a parking ticket, but then he looked
closer and noticed it was a note. Junya picked up the note, but the wet weather
had washed out the ink.
"I...keys...be...?" Junya read to himself as he tried to make out the note.
Junya saw that an arrow was drawn on the piece of paper, and it was pointing
down towards the ground.
"What the...? Junya thought to himself. What the hell is this supposed to
mean?" Junya started to look on the ground around the large yellow vehicle.
As Junya crouched on the ground to look around, he heard a loud horn
beeping. At first, Junya thought it was the alarm, and started to panic. He
looked up to see the cab driver pull off.
"Shit!" Junya said as he stomped his foot to the ground.
When he did that, Junya noticed that there was an ornament he
remembered belonging to Khevasiah.s exquisite key chain. Khevasiah was in
love with the color yellow, and he noticed a Tweedy Bird on the ground.
"This chick hid the keys behind the wheel, is she fucking crazy!" Junya
said to himself.
Junya felt truly blessed at this moment. Here he thought his girlfriend left
him for dead, but then she left him the keys to her precious SUV. Although
Junya thought it was stupid of her to do, he unlocked the door and got inside.
Junya instantly noticed that there were a few copies of his demo CD on the
passenger seat, and another piece of paper was underneath the stack of them.
He read the paper to say it was a business contact number, possibly from the
men she was with the night prior.
"So, she was putting me on all along!" Junya reasoned to himself.
Junya snapped into a mind set where he found himself forgiving
Khevasiah. He still did not understand why she had left him outside of the club.
Junya looked at his watch, and noticed that it was 7:15pm on the dot. Junya
looked in the ashtray for some coins, then ran across the street to the payphone
and called Lani.
