"After all," Steven said with laughter to lighten the conversation. "If
push comes to shove, we can always buy a new titty."
"On that note, I gotta go." Allen said as his cellular phone vibrated to
alert him to an awaiting message.
"I love you both and I will give you a
call later this evening."
Allen picked up his cellular phone and jacket and proceeded out the
door. As he walked down the long hotel corridor, he checked the
message. It was Charles calling to tell him that he needed to talk to him
about a very important matter. Allen deleted the message and placed his
phone in the inside pocket of his jacket as the elevator doors opened.
He entered the elevator on the eleventh floor to find a beautiful young
woman reading a paper back book near the back left of the car. Allen
observed the button for the lobby was already pressed, so he extended
his hand to press the button for the doors to close. Allen and the
beautiful stranger rode in silence for a few moments until the stranger
lifted her head and spoke to Allen.
"So are you here on business or pleasure?"
"Excuse me," Allen said as he was caught off guard by the stranger's
question.
"I said are you here on business or pleasure?"
"Oh, I'm here on business, and yourself?"
"I'm here visiting my family."
"Where are you from originally?" Allen asked.
"I'm from Indianapolis."
Allen thought to ask why she was staying in a hotel when she had
family in Toronto, but decided that if it were meant for him to know, the
question would answer itself.
"Do you come here often?" Allen asked.
"If you call two or three times a year a lot, then I guess I do, but I
wouldn't consider it a lot."
"Do you always stay here when you come?"
"Most of the time. I like to have my own space and though my family
has always suggested I stay at their place, I've always chosen to stay in a
hotel."
"I know what you mean by needing your own space."
"Look at me telling you all of my business and I haven't even told you
my name. I'm Shawn," she said as she extended her hand to Allen.
"Nice to meet you Shawn," Allen said as he took her hand, "my name
is Allen."
"Very nice to meet you as well Allen. Not only are you nice and well
mannered, but handsome as well."
"Thank you very much. May I say that you yourself are as well very
attractive?"
"Yes you may say," Shawn said as she profiled.
"Hey, I don't mean to be too forward or disrespectful, but I was on my
way to grab a bite to eat, would you like to go with me?"
"Are you asking me out on a date or are you one of those one night
stand type of guys?"
"Well," Allen hesitated as he looked for the right answer and honesty
was what met his lips. "No, I am not a one night stand type of guy and
yes I guess that I am asking you out on a date."
"Well I accept," Shawn said smiling.
"Good," Allen said as the elevator doors opened to release a new
friendship.
