As Amber did, CJ walked the stage strutting like a model on a catwalk. She turned and smiled at several of the participants until she saw a woman raise a numbered placard. CJs smile left instantly as she motioned to Charles to place a bid. He too noticed the woman who made the last bid so he decided to make CJ sweat. He waited until Tanya reach the going twice mark before raising his placard and placed a bid. CJ patted her chest a few times and took a few deep breaths then walked toward Tanya trying to encourage her to close out the bidding.
Tanya paused, hoping the break would stop her from bursting into laughter.
She regained her composure and attempted to close the bidding out but
Charless opponent refused to let him walk away with the prize.
She raised her placard and placed a bid of one thousand dollars ending any
hopes of Charles competing. Throughout the audience, gasping and soft
murmuring filled the room. Tanyas eyes widened as she began to close
out on the bidding.
"Going once," she said as CJ began to panic looking for a shrugging
Charles to top the bid. "Going twice," CJ looked in Tanyas direction for
help. "Sold to the young lady holding the number 69 placard."
CJ looked at Tanya in disbelief as embarrassment started to settle in
mentally. She began to think of the way the audience saw her and ran
off of the stage.
"Remember, tonights event is for the benefit of breast cancer and all
dates are for fun." Tanya hoped her announcement would calm CJ and
help her to understand the importance of the event.
Tanya spoke more about the importance of the event and the many
people that were benefiting from everyones participation and generosity
before introducing the CEO of her company to make a few remarks. Mr.
Maguire stood briefly before the audience and thanked them for their
participation then turned to Tanya and congratulated her for putting
together a beautiful event. The audience applauded as Mr. Maguire
turned the show back over to Tanya and walked off the stage. Tanya
immediately got back into the auction by introducing Cupid to the room.
"William is a promoter here is Los Angeles and not only is he an
accomplished business man ladies, as you can see, standing at 66" tall,
he is handsome as well. William is a graduate of Stanford and says that
he enjoys living life for the day because he feels tomorrow is what is and
where it is. William does travel often, but when he is home, he feels like
there is nothing like being with people you care about. Shall we start the
bidding at $50.00?"
Immediately, Cupid received a bid of $250.00 that was to be outdone
by a bid of $500.00. For a few minutes, two women battled for Cupids
company until the patience of the woman who placed the first bid ran
out. With the bidding at $800.00, she stood and offered a bid of
$1500.00 then turned and looked at the other woman as if to say I dare
you to place another bid. Not being outdone and stepping to the
challenge, the challenger stood and offered a bid of $3000.00 and kindly
waved at her opponent who had sat down and accepted the defeat.
