Monday morning had come with a breath of fresh air as Allen sat behind his desk smiling while he talked with his father. Steven called to tell Allen that he and his wife were attempting to visit him in LA, but Allen refused because of his mother and told him that he would travel to see them. He told his father that he didn't want to put his mother through the plane ride just yet. Steven told Allen time and time again that his mother was fine. He told him that the surgery was a success and there had been no relapses.
Still, with all of the information that
Allen had been given, it was not enough to make him change his mind.
Helen's birthday was no more than three weeks away and she wanted to
see her baby for her birthday. Allen assured them that he would be
there and for them to take it easy until he arrived. They both said their
goodbyes and Allen hung up the phone.
He sat for a minute looking over
financial reports from the stores in his region when Mary alerted him to a
phone call from a Gwen Matthews with Cochran Matthews and
Associates. Allen told Mary to send the call through and to get Mr.
Douglas on the phone and inform him that he would have the
information on Mitchell's case in the next hour. Allen proceeded to close
his office door before settling in to talk with Gwen. He pressed the
button to activate the speakerphone and began his call with Gwen.
"This is Allen," he said strongly.
"Hello Mr. Anthony, this is Gwen Matthews." She said softly.
"Ms. Matthews how are you?"
"I am doing well. I wanted to call you and give you the results of our
offer."
"OK," Allen said, "I'm all ears."
"Well," Gwen began, "I sent the offer of a fifty-thousand dollar
settlement to them on Friday. The response that I got was a good one.
They will agree to the offer with one stipulation. They want all of the
medical bills taken care of and a face-to-face apology from Mitchell. In
addition to that, they are willing to forget about the interviews that they
had been offered."
"Is there anything else? "
"That is it."
"What do you think?" Allen asked.
"I think we should jump on the opportunity while it is in the air."
"Well, you are the attorney. I trust your judgment."
"Thank you," Gwen said happily, "that means a lot."
"Well, I need to confirm the offer with my colleagues and I will get
back to you in about ten minutes."
"That sounds good. I will be waiting for your call."
"You can count on it."
Allen hung up with Gwen and called Mary on the intercom to see if
she was able to locate Mr. Douglas.
"Yes," Mary answered, "he is waiting for your call at the Oregon office.
"Thank you Mary."
Allen removed the receiver and located the number to the Oregon
office on the speed dial.
"Ted Douglas please," Allen spoke.
