Charles sat and listened to Allen as he spoke. Though his mind was on Allen's words, his heart was still feeling the effects of it breaking.
"So what stopped you from going over the edge?" Allen asked through
the brief intermission of conversation.
"The song ended and I got my mind back. It was like I went crazy for
a few minutes. Man I actually think I would have died behind that girl.
You can't question my love for her."
"Well I'll tell you this," Allen began,
"to die for someone is an
honorable gesture and many would say that you really loved that person.
But when you find someone that you would do more than die, you would
live for. Then you know that you are in love."
Charles sat and thought about Allen's statement as he shed more
tears thinking about his loss yet again.
"You know Jones, I would have been the best pops to my seed. The
best."
"I know bruh. I know." Allen said as he and Charles embraced.
"But
the funny thing about life is this. When you do have your first child, you
will be a better father than you would have been this time around
because of this experience."
A ringing phone brought the emotional moment to a halt as Allen
excused himself to answer the call.
"Hello," Allen spoke.
"This is he and to whom am I speaking with.
Hey, how are you?" Allen smiled and sat down.
"That would be a good
idea under normal circumstances, but right now isn't a good time. How
about a little later? Oh I see, girls night out huh? Well maybe tomorrow,
I will be free all day. Well it's a plan. Thank you for calling. Yes it was
rather unexpected. Well I thought I had to wait until the ink dried on the
offer before I could contact you. Oh is that how it works? Because you
make the rules, you can break the rules. Well one o'clock sounds good.
I will call you then. Have fun at the concert."
Allen hung up the phone and sat with a wide smile on his face.
Charles asked who the new interest was.
"Man, do you remember about a year or so ago when I left the group
for a while?"
"Yeah," Charles answered unconcerned.
"Do you remember me saying that I met a young lady at the store that
I probably would never see again?"
"Yeah I vaguely remember that."
"Well I saw her again. She walked right into my office."
"Get the fuck out."
"Naw man. She is the attorney that is defending the guy I was telling
you about. Who would have thought I would have saw her again?"
"Man I am truly happy for you. This is what you've been waiting for.
Make it happen bruh."
