Gwen laughed as Steven went to retrieve Allen.
"I hope you like to eat Gwen, because I made a special dinner for the
four of us tonight."
"I can see that you and I will get along just fine. I love to eat."
"Well in that case, why dont you help me in the kitchen and you can
sample while I serve."
"That sounds good to me."
Gwen and Helen made their way to the kitchen with Gwens anxieties
put to rest. Enjoying the beginning of her visit, Gwen offered to set the
table as Helen began to place portions of the meal into separate
containers.
"Gwen, dont worry about that. You sit here and sample each of these
dishes and tell me which one shouldnt be on the table. Steven and Allen
can set the table."
"Yes maam," Gwen reached for a fork and did as instructed.
"Here, try this first." Helen said as she placed potato salad in front of
her on a small saucer.
"This has to definitely go on the table." Gwen said with a mouth full
of salad.
"Ok, now this and this." Helen said placing turkey meatloaf and
garlic and chive mashed potatoes with gravy in front of her.
"Mrs. Anthony, this is so good." Gwen said with a full mouth and a
second taste of meatloaf on her fork. "I can see where Allen gets his
cooking talent from."
"Helen," she began with instructions, "Gwen, call me Helen, or Mom."
"Ok, Mom." Gwen smiled.
"I heard that," Steven said as he walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah, that sounded rather nice." Allen said as he kissed Gwen on her
cheek.
"Here baby, take this into the dining room and set in on the table
please." Helen asked Allen.
"What can I do baby?" Steven asked.
"Give me a kiss so I can feel as young as Gwen and then get out of my
kitchen." She laughed as Steven fulfilled her request.
Gwen continued to taste Helens dishes as Allen placed the bowls on
the table.
"I also have a peach cobbler and a pound cake in there. We can have
that with some coffee after dinner." Helen informed Gwen.
"I love peach cobbler. That sounds like a plan," Gwen said while
eating a mouth full of mixed vegetables and preparing to taste honey
vanilla cornbread made from the same recipe that Allen used to make it
for her.
Well, when Steven takes Allen to see all of his friends and brag on his
son, we can sit and talk over a little dessert."
"I look forward to it Mom."
Allen placed the last bowl on the table and pulled Gwens chair out for
her to be seated. They all joined hands around the dinner table as
Steven prayed over the meal.
Tanya arrived home from the hospital and removed a bottle of wine
from the refrigerator to relax her mind. She fleetingly began to think
about the situation Onna was facing then switched her thoughts to her
imminent company date auction.
