"Have they cancelled the meeting?" Allen paused.
"No they haven't cancelled the meeting. Mr. Cochran's secretary
called to inform us that he wouldn't be able to make the meeting, but
another attorney would be coming to represent on his behalf."
"Well has the time changed at all?" Allen asked hoping that it had.
"No the time is still the same and you're running late."
"Bye Mary," Allen said as he hung up the phone.
Allen put the final touches on his attire and removed his keys from
the pocket of the pants he wore the day before. He walked as quickly as
he could to the front door without tripping over his gym bag and shoes
that he left in the floor the day before. Allen sped through his parking
structure in an attempt to make it to the office on time. Allen swerved
through traffic trying to gain a lead position on the road. With a little
less than ten minutes to be in the office and an accident ahead of him,
Allen conceded and decided to roll with the flow of traffic.
Allen entered the Nike Corporate office twenty minutes behind
schedule.
"Has the attorney from Cochran and Matthews arrived yet?" Allen
asked Mary who sat at her desk on a personal phone call.
"Hold on," Mary told the caller.
"Yeah, she has been here for about
thirty minutes. I've taken care of everything."
"Is Mitchell here?"
"Yes he got here about twenty minutes ago. He's in your office. The
attorney is in conference room two."
"Thank you Mary, What," Allen was cut off.
"I know I know, what would you do without me? Stumble and fall
would be my guess. Now go in there and help that poor boy."
Allen kissed Mary on her forehead and proceeded into his office.
Mitchell stood looking out of the corner window wearing a black suit.
"Allen, good to see you." Mitchell said as he extended his hand toward
Allen.
"First of all," Allen said walking passed Mitchell's extended hand,
"it's
Mr. Anthony. Secondly, it's good to see that you are dressed for the
occasion. Thirdly, it's not good to see you under these circumstances. I
have too much to do before I leave for Toronto and your dumb ass
situation ain't helping to take this load off of me."
"Well I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you with
your busy schedule and all." Mitchell said patronizing Allen.
Allen walked toward Mitchell slowly and stood in front of him.
"See, I'm going to excuse you for that last comment because you have
no idea what I'm going through. But if I were you, and we both know
that I'm not, I would shut up and speak with a little sense when I did
speak. The reason I say that is because if you patronize me again, I'm
going to calmly take off this jacket and calmly lay it on that chair and
frantically whip yo' ass. I'm going through too much to handle any more
of your bullshit.
