Helen and Steven sat and looked at one another before eating their meal. Through their bath and the pampering of one another, the CD played. Through their lovemaking, the CD played. Through the night, the CD played and when they awoke, the CD still played.
"It's good to go back sometimes." Helen said.
"It sure is baby. It helps you to see that the things that you have gone
through have made you who you are. I like who we are."
Steven and Helen held one another as they lay in bed. They began to
discuss the doctors' phone call and how they would go about dealing
with it.
"Have you told Allen about it yet?" Steven asked Helen.
"No, I thought it would be best if we told him together."
"I suppose that would be the best thing to do."
"When do you think we should tell him, you know he has that big
assignment with work?"
"Well, the sooner the better. I believe telling him now will give him
time to deal with it. We just have to tell him in a way that is sure to let
him know that you are all right."
"I guess you're right." Helen said as she looked up at Steven.
"I know I'm right," Steven said as he held his wife tightly in his arms
and kissed the crown of her head.
"We'll be just fine," he said as they lay
in bed.
"I knew that. Without you saying it. I knew that."
Allen awakened from his nap to a ringing phone. He debated on
whether or not he truly wanted to take the call or not. He assumed it
was Andrew calling to inform him that he had arrived so he chose not to
take the call.
After several rings the ringing stopped, but just
momentarily as the phone began to ring again. Allen knew for sure that
it was Andrew with the persistent calling so he hesitated answering the
call. When he finally reached for the phone, his delay caused it to stop
ringing.
"I guess he'll call again." Allen said as he got up to turn the heater on
low and rummaged through his luggage in an attempt to locate a pair of
underwear to put on after his shower.
As he searched he noticed the blinking red light on his phone alerting
him to an awaiting message. Allen sat on the edge of the bed to check
the message. To his surprise, it was his father calling. He had asked
Allen to give him a call at his earliest convenience. Allen wondered if the
call was relating to his mother's condition. He thought that maybe they
had news, and because he didn't sense any urgency in his father's
message, he knew that the news was good.
