Jes took the message and told the caller that she...

Jes took the message and told the caller that she would give her the message. Jes then decided to put on some clothes and get some breakfast. While Jes was getting ready to walk out of the house, the phone rang again.

"Hello,"
Jes spoke, "this is she."
Jes sat on the sofa to continue her conversation.
"Oh, hey Tanya, I was on my way to get something to eat. I don't know yet, I was thinking about going to Roscoe's Chicken n' Waffles. No, the one on Gower and Sunset Blvd. Oh good, then meet me over there. Girl I told you it was nothing. Well I'll see you there."

Jes hung up the phone and headed for the door. While walking to her car, she couldn't help but feel as though she has left something behind. Jes gets into her car and smiles as she thinks of how unusual it was not seeing Mr. Davis watering his lawn. Jes then realized that is what she was forgetting. She had been so used to seeing Mr. Davis watering his lawn that she didn't feel comfortable without him whistling at her. While Jes drove, she decided to give Gwen a call at the hair shop.

"Hey Girl,"
Jes said when Gwen answered the phone, "I was just calling to let you know that I was going to Roscoe's and to tell you to tell Gigi that I would be there to get my hair done about eleven. Do you want me to bring you anything?"
Jes asked. "OK well I'll be there after I eat. By the way, your job called. They didn't say, but there's a message for you at the house."

Jes listened as Gwen relayed a message.

"Who said to tell me hi?"
Jes asked,
"Oh, tell Derrick hello,"
Jes said with a giggle as she hung up the phone. Derrick was a hired hand at the hair shop that Gigi used to wash heads. He had been trying to date Jes for over a year now, but the only problem was that Derrick didn't know if he wanted to fuck, or be fucked. Jes reached Roscoe's only to stand in line waiting for a table. While she stood outside waiting, Tanya drove up. Although Jes had told Tanya that everything was OK, she really didn't know how to take what she had found out. Jes didn't have any ill feelings about Tanya, nor did she have any questions and that's what bothered Jes most.

"Hey Jes," Tanya said with her head down, not wanting to make eye contact with Jes just yet. "Hey girl."

As they exchanged pleasantries the host at Roscoe's called Jes' name to alert her of her table being ready. "Perfect timing,"
Jes said in reference to Tanya's arrival. "Gwen,"
Gigi called,
"has Derrick washed your hair yet?"
"I didn't know he was washing my hair."
"Derrick, didn't I ask you to wash Gwen's hair?"
Gigi yelled. "Boy you keep slackin' and you gon' be lookin' for another job,"
Gigi threatened. "Gwen,"
Derrick said playfully, "come on fo I have to cut that heffa."
