Over Toasters Strudel and strawberry milk, Charles and Allen sat on the sofa and discussed the activities of the previous night. Charles had begun to open up and tell Allen all that had happened between he and Michelle.
"Jones, I don't know where to begin. Do I start with the good, the bad
or just the hurt?"
"If it will make you feel any better, why not start at the beginning."
"The beginning, yeah that was a beautiful thing. She was so
incredible. Standing there as if she was the sun and the rest of the world
rotated around her. It was a feeling that I had never before felt when I
first saw her. I couldn't explain it. It was like her vision was causing me
to choke with anticipation. It was then that I learned that anticipation of
an event is worse that the event it self. It was like wanting her was
better than having her. But hindsight is twenty twenty right?"
"You do have a point there." Allen said as he listened quietly.
"Man after we talked and shared our thoughts, we found that we had
a lot in common. Maybe the fact that we had so much in common, made
us so different. Life is funny like that. It gives you opportunities to fall
in love. It allows people to enter your life, though they may not be for
you, they enter your life so that your friends or loved one's will know
what to do if they are in that situation or if you're ever in that situation
again. GOD, allows things to happen to you because you don't
necessarily know who is looking at you. Who knows, I could be all wrong
about it, but this is what I feel."
"And you could be alright about it." Allen said as he encouraged
Charles to continue.
"I think Michelle and I were brought together to help me understand
about love, but not to love one another completely. Maybe she was my
first true love experience. I can't say for sure," Charles said as he
thought, "but I sure did and do love her."
"So what happened last night C?" Allen asked.
Charles sat and thought for a moment before answering Allen's
question. Allen could see pain begin to swell in his eyes.
"Dog, I'm here for you. If you need to get it out, get it out. You are my
dog for life. There is no shame in crying. My pops used to tell me that
real men cry and they won't care if they have an audience when they do."
"Thanks man. I needed to hear that," Charles said as he let his heart
out in his tears.
Allen stood and embraced Charles as he cried.
"I'm here for you bruh."
Charles excused himself and retreated to the bathroom for tissue to
restore his appearance.
"I guess it was about one thirty or two in the morning when she woke
me up. She was crying and said that she wanted to talk to me about the
baby. I asked her if the baby was OK and she said yes. That is when
she started telling me all this stuff about not being ready to be a mother.
I asked her what she was talking about and she told me that she had an
abortion three months ago."
