The world of hard porn examined in this dissertation is a world of positive perversity- impulses which had tobededuced fromunder layer and layers of disguises inthe presexual revolution past, have gained crucial social recognition in the latter part of the 20th century, the process is continuing today- in the beginning of the 21st. Not only practices like masturbation, 'doggy style' vaginal penetration, oral and anal sexhave become legal and to a large extent legitimate, also more 'extreme' forms of sexual behavior are becoming recognized asnot tobe exterminated upon sight.
This recognitionof various sexual practices and/or lifestyle choices isdue to a combinationof the political system of the
postWW2 free world and the tendency of selforganization of various peripheral groups.
Today the communicationtechnology revolution, withspecialemphasis on the Internet,
has made the selforganization and coordination of various interest
groups an endeavordemanding less and less effort.
So, while thesocial climate in the past, especiallyinthe rigid world which
later was destroyed in two worldbloodbaths, to a large extent made
negative perversity epidemic, and todaypositive perversity has almost emerged from the shadows, many
questions, for those at least who are not content with 'just humannature' as an answer,
remain: whydo these impulses exist at all? Are theyinherent? Are theyinherited? Are they
contagious? Are they 'good' or 'evil'?Do theyallow to maintainsome sort of sanity? Or are
they formsof insanity themselves?
Dominationand Submission
If a group of male humans (or female humans following male modes of interaction) is
forced into a situation where theyhave to coexist on a continuous basis, even
if one stable 'leader' does not emerge, a stable 'loser'
almost always appears. The 'loser' human does not leave the group for a variety of reasons:
its physical survival may dependupon it. the group
may in some wayfulfill its desire tobelong. it may have no choice - i.e. whenput into
a specific school, or prison, or army.
The existence of this 'loser' is not random
- it has a sociological function within the group - a redirectingof
violence. On the basic emotionmental level, the 'red level', every male human must fight the others in order to survive. This
'red masculinity' as an identity, is based entirely uponthe status ofthe male human in the
dimension of violence between competing males. The 'loser' allows the group to not consist
of constantly warring males - the violence, dominationand humiliation is directed
towards one member by all - and thus in a way the 'loser' is a sacrifice which allows the maintenance
ofperiods of 'peace' within the specific groupof males.
Andrea Dworkin acutelysensed the social function of the low status of the
female humans, asa 'sacrifice' whichenables human
malesto kill eachother less. A ritualistic reenactment of this sacrifice in the context of
this studyis the gang rapeby male youths of a girl, toprove
to each other their masculinityin it's
sadistic dominating aspect 26, a legal version of whichis the consensual 'gang bang', and the
respective porn scenarios or individual fantasies.
The advance of the 'pornographic' world, which appears to have gone much further, or at least has become more explicit, thenwhen
Dworkin observed the phenomena, allows the male viewer -
from a socially relevant point of view -to experience the gratificationat the expense of
the female actor inthe film: "The spectator's pleasure in power and dominationis takeneven
further in forms ofpornographywhich concentrate onthe infliction
of pain. Here, thereassurance of potencycomes through he purchaser's
abilityto imaginemaking thewomanscream, shout, beg andplead. The penis 27becomes a weapon,
